The Pelargonium plant family is native to South Africa and was brought to Europe in the 17th. century. The first cultivation and distillation of the plant into essential oil was in France. At some point, a wide number of countries began to produce the essential oil and contribute to its distribution around the world.

It is believed that Rose Geranium essential oil helps to promote emotional stability, calm the nervous system and alleviate stress. A recent study indicated that its antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiseptic properties make it beneficial for reducing acne breakouts, skin irritation, and skin infections when applied topically. It is possible that this essential oil may be of value for women experiencing reduced estrogen and health-related symptoms caused by menopause and perimenopause and that its anti-inflammatory properties may help with nerve pain and edema.
