‘Tis the Season to Strengthen Your Immune System

The immune system is a network of biological systems that protects you from illness. It detects and responds to a wide variety of pathogens, from viruses to serious diseases, as well as objects such as wood splinters. It does this by distinguishing them from the organism’s own healthy tissue.

To support one’s resilience, we need to eat nourishing foods that assist our natural immunity. Angela, one of our herbalists, has created this delicious smoothie recipe that can just do that.

  • 1 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 2 to 3 tbsp of lemon juice or one squeezed lemon
  • 1 tsp Gaia Garden’s “Inner Fire Elixir
  • ½ tsp of Gaia Garden’s Ginger Powder
  • 1 tsp of Gaia’s Maitake Powder
  • ½ tsp of Gaia’s Beetroot Powder
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1 blood orange or grapefruit, peeled and separated
  • ½ cup pomegranate juice
  • honey or maple syrup to taste

1. In a blender, combine the mango, orange juice, lemon juice, Inner Fire Elixir, ginger and Maitake powder. Blend until smooth, adding honey or maple syrup to sweeten. Pour into a jar.

2. Rinse the blender. Combine the beet powder, raspberries, orange, and pomegranate juice. Blend until smooth and creamy, adding more pomegranate juice to reach your desired consistency. Pour over the first mixture and stir gently to create a beautiful swirl. Enjoy!

Makes around three cups of smoothie. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate. Drink 1-2 cups daily. Great to do once or twice a month for immune support and even on a weekly basis.
