Maitake Mushroom Powder (Grifola frondosa) – Organic

Maitake mushroom is a polypore fungus with a beautiful array of rippling, flowery, overlapping caps reassembling dancing butterflies, hence the common name, dancing mushroom.  It is also commonly known as the king of mushrooms, hen of the woods, sheep’s head and ram’s head.  Maitake is native to China, northeastern Japan and North America where they grow in clusters near the base of maple, oak and elm trees.  Maitake has been used for over 2,000 years as both a culinary and medicinal mushroom in China and Japan.

Properties:

Maitake is a powerful apoptogenic mushroom that enhances the immune system, promoting health, longevity and vitality.  In TCM, it is used to help tonify spleen qi, the stomach, kidneys and helps to calm shen, promote urination and to reduce inflammation.  Research has shown that maitake’s beta-glucan content has anti-viral properties and can help reduce cholesterol.  Studies have shown that maitake can support healthy blood sugar levels, help reduce insulin, support weight management and can help to lower blood pressure.

How to use:

Use 1 teaspoon in warm water, a smoothie or stir into soup or broth. May be used up to twice per day.
