Petitgrain oil comes from the bitter orange tree and was originally extracted from the immature fruit. Today, it is extracted from the green branches and leaves. Native to Southern China, the bitter orange tree was brought to Paraguay in the 19th century, and now flourishes in this part of the world. This species was also the first ‘orange’ to reach the New World thanks to the second voyage of Christopher Columbus in 1493.
Petitigrain can help to promote sweating when detoxing is needed, can reduce muscle spasms, calm a queasy digestive system, help clear up skin blemishes and balance sebum production. This essential oil can be used in place of Neroli (they’re from the same tree, Neroli being the blossom) for depression, nervous exhaustion, insomnia and stress.
