Most Cypress oils are distilled in Southern France. Cypress was well known to the ancient Egyptians who used it extensively in their mummification processes and the ancient Greeks dedicated the tree to Pluto, god of the underworld – thus the traditional use of the trees in cemeteries. The essential oil of Cypress is steam distilled from the leaves (needles) and twigs.
Cypress is a great wound healer and disinfectant. It is anti-inflammatory, decongesting for the lungs and sinuses and naturally deodorizing. Cypress is also anti-spasmodic and helps in the treatment of cramps and pulled muscles. Its’ astringent properties make it a great oil to use for oily skin and scalp conditions. Emotionally, it relieves anxiety and helps to smooth transitions such as the loss of a loved one or the end of a relationship.
