Yohimbe is a tall evergreen forest tree native to southwestern Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon and the Congo. The bark is grey to reddish-brown, with longfissures, easy to peel and bitter tasting. The inner bark is pinkish and fibrous.
Yohimbe Bark has traditionally been used in Western Africa as a sexual aphrodisiac, especially in male erectile disorders. Medicinal use reached Europe in the 1890’s.
Yohimbe Bark has been used traditionally for a variety of disorders in addition to the treatment of sexual disorders. It has been traditionally thought to affect circulation; and has an affinity to the sympathetic nervous system.
How to use:
1 teaspoon of Yohimbe Bark to 1 cup of boiling water. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Strain and drink up to 2 cups per day.
Cautions & contraindications:
Should not be taken by pregnant women. May cause increase in blood pressure and sleeplessness.
Contraindications in existing liver and kidney diseases and in chronic inflammation of sexual organs or prostrate glands.
