Yellow Dock is a perennial flowering plant native to Europe and Western Asia. It also grows in North America. Yellow dock is known as Curly Dock as it has a long yellow tap root with long curling leaves.The curled Dock has many clusters of three flowers.The seeds start as green in the spring and become red as they mature in the end of summer into fall.
Yellow Dock is commonly found in pastures, and areas along roadways as well as other disturbed areas.
The roots possess the property to attract iron from the soil which is transformed into organic iron in the plant tissues.
How to use:
Yellow dock is traditionally used for simple iron deficiency.
The indigenous peoples of Canada and the Native Americans used Yellow dock extensively. The bruised leaf was used inwounds and as a poultice for fever. The root was used internally for constipation and as a mild internal cleanser. Theplant also contains sulphur which is valuable in chronic skin disorders. Yellow Dock is traditionally known as a digestive bitter.
Yellow Dock Root is described as an alterative tonic (which means to balance and gain health) that has a gentle cleansing action on the digestive system and the metabolism.
When mixed with other herbs Yellow Dock is useful in assisting the liver, helping to remove toxins from the body.For hundreds of years Yellow Dock has proven to be an outstanding medicine for skin eruptions and irritations. Yellow Dock also has some laxative properties that make it an important herb for minor constipation.
How to use:
1/2to1teaspoon per cup of water. Bring water to a boil and let powder steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain and drink up to 3 cups per day.
Combine Yellow Dock with Dandelion, Burdock and Cleavers for liver support.
Avoid use during pregnancy and breast feeding.
