Hydrosol, also known as Floral Water, is the water used during the steam distillation of plant material in order to obtain the essential oil. The term hydrosol is Latin for water solution. Hydrosols possess certain qualities and enchanting plant essences but are much milder, making them a wonderful ingredient for pampering skin or a lighter option for an aromatic spray. Floral waters are, to a high degree, adaptable. They are an ideal safe introduction for the novice aromatherapist to appreciate the therapeutic advantages of essential oils.

Witch Hazel (Hamamelis Virginiana) Hydrosol

The North American shrub known as Witch Hazel (Hamamelis Virginiana) grows abundantly in the eastern and Midwestern United States and in southern Canada. It is characterized by a brilliant orange or yellow blossom that resembles exploding fireworks; a unique, aggressive method of propagation as its seed capsules erupt explosively in autumn, flinging seeds up to 30 feet.

Native Americans have long used the twigs and bark of Witch Hazel as a medicinal herb topically for a wide variety of ailments. Witch hazel has a gentle, fresh, herbaceous and slightly woody aroma. Witch Hazel Hydrosol is primarily used in skin and oral care. It is astringent and can be used daily as a toner. It cleans the skin and helps to soothe dry skin.

One of the most common uses for Witch Hazel is for first aid. Use it for help with wounds, cuts and scrapes.

How to use:  You can either use it as a spray or soak a cotton ball and apply to the area. In addition, you can use it in a compress – either on its own or combined with other appropriate hydrosols and/or essential oils.

Topically it reduces redness, rashes, itching, swelling and scaling of the skin.  Great for varicose veins and hemorrhoids. May help reduce swelling and inflammation.

Please Note: The 120ml and 240ml sizes are sold as a spray. Larger sizes are bulk.
