Tangerine (Citrus reticulata) – Essential Oil

The tangerine tree is an evergreen tree that grows 10 to 15 feet tall, although older trees have reached 25 feet. Tangerine is a variety of mandarin that looks like an orange but smaller, reddish orange in colour and has a flat shape. Belonging to the mandarin orange species of the family Rutaceae which includes Orange, Grapefruit, Lime and Bergamot. Tangerine is native to Southeast Asia and spread westward along trade routes, ending up in Europe in 1805 and a little later to South America. The fruit is cultivated in the subtropical regions around the world, especially in the southern United States.
Tangerine is a characteristic ingredient in several flavourings, liqueurs, desserts and beverages . Like mandarins, tangerines are used in Traditional Chinese medicine, for warming the Spleen, drying dampness and dispersing Phlegm from the Lungs, soothing inflammation and purifying the blood.
Tangerine essential oil is taken from the peel or rind of the tangerine fruit through the process of cold expression. Tangerine oil smells like sweet and tangy citrus fruit, similar to a mandarin. Tangerine essential oil has been used to calm inflammation and reduce spasms in different organ systems of the body including respiratory system, digestive system and nervous system. Tangerine is said to be a reinvigorating oil that may help to lift the spirit, calm or uplift the mind and enhance the mood by increasing creativity and open heartedness. Tangerine is used for antiseptic and anti fungal properties for acne and dandruff. Tangerine oil has been used for aging or mature skin to speed up the healing of skin and restore damaged tissue.
For a respiratory blend combine Tangerine with Balsam fir, Rosemary and Frankincense.
For Dandruff combine Tangerine with Bergamot and Cedarwood in a carrier oil.
For repairing and healing skin including stretch marks and scars combine Tangerine mandarin with Lavender and Frankincense in Rosehip and Calendula oil.
Cautions & contraindications:
