It is believed to be one of the first plants to reach North America after European colonization. Plantain leaf was known among some Indigenous people by the common name “white man’s footprint”, because it thrived in the disturbed and damaged ecosystems surrounding European settlements. Traditionally this plant has been used for its soothing, anti inflammatory and cooling effect on skin condition, as well as minor aches and pains and supporting tissue healing.
