Periwinkle, also known as Lesser Periwinkle, is an evergreen shrub that has dark green leaves and purple-blue flowers. Vinca minor is a member of the Apocynaceae family. It is native to Europe and northwest Africa and now seen as an invasive species in North America, Australia and New Zealand.
Periwinkle leaf has a long history of use in traditional medicine in Europe, particularly for diabetes, coughs and hemorrhages.
The taste and energetics of Periwinkle are slightly bitter, cooling and drying. Periwinkle has an affinity for the nervous system, brain and cardiovascular system. Combine with Lion’s Mane, Ginkgo or Rosemary for supporting cognitive function and memory.
How to use:
1 teaspoon of Periwinkle to one cup of boiling water. Simmer for 15 minutes, strain and drink up to three cups a day.
