Moringa Oleifera is a fairly large tree native to North India and was being used in Indian medicine around 5,000 years ago. It goes by a variety of names, such as Drumstick Tree, Horseradish Tree or Ben Oil Tree. Almost all parts of the tree are eaten or used as ingredients in traditional herbal medicines. Moringa leaves are an excellent source of many vitamins. It is very rich in antioxidants and bioactive plant compounds.
There are also accounts of it being used by the ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. This tree was considered a panacea. Moringa was used extensively in Ayurveda, where virtually all parts were considered useful with many beneficial attributes. It was used to support digestion, spleen and eye health. The taste was considered bitter and pungent. In Ayurveda it is considered to be balancing to Kapha and Vata.
Our Moringa is Organically grown in Sri Lanka and is Kosher certified.
Moringa leaves are qualified as a superfood because one cup of chopped leaves is considered a good source of iron, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin B6 and riboflavin with notable amounts of potassium, vitamin A, vitamin E and magnesium. In fact, the leaves are more concentrated in vitamin C than oranges. That means Moringa can contribute to everything from better vision and immunity to bone health and skin radiance.
Moringa may help to lower blood sugar and may help with inflammation. It may also help with milk production in nursing mothers.
How to use:
Start with 1/2 teaspoon per day up to 1 teaspoon per day. You can add 1 teaspoon of moringa powder to any smoothie – kale or spinach smoothies blend well and enhance the earthy taste.
