This common brown seaweed gets its name “Bladderwrack” from the little “bladders” that fill with air to keep it afloat. You’ll find this seaweed growing abundantly along the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. A sea-plant which transforms inorganic substances from the sea into organic minerals capable of nourishing the human body. Due to its healing properties with the skin, it’s often used in skin care products.

Kelp and other sea vegetables take up minerals from the water they inhabit, which means they can take up heavy metals as well, like arsenic, cadmium and lead. Gaia Garden’s Bladderwrack Kelp is a well sourced sea vegetable, free of any contaminants.

Properties:

Bladderwrack kelp is one of the richest sources of minerals, specifically iodine, sodium, manganese, sulphur, silicon, zinc and copper. Used often for thyroid disease, thyroxine deficiency and simple goitre. Faulty nutrition, listless, ricketts, build up weak constitutions. It’s been known to alleviate onset of arteriosclerosis by maintaining elasticity of walls of blood vessels. Beneficial to both male and female reproductive organs, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Can help prevent onset of arthritis and rheumatism. Used in skin care products to help with insect bites, burns, skin diseases and prevent aging.

How to Use:

Bladderwrack may be eaten whole or made into a tea using 1 teaspoon per cup of hot water, allowing each cup to steep at least 10 minutes before drinking.

For a face mask blend Bladderwrack to a powder and combine with a small amount of honey and water.

Cautions & contraindications:

Seaweeds contain naturally high levels of iodine, which is contraindicated in persons with hyperthyroid. This product is harvested from the sea therefore occasional shell fragments may be present in the product. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to fish or shellfish.
