Comfrey Leaf (Symphytum officinale) infused in olive oil. Extracted from the Comfrey plant, a native to Britain and extends throughout most of Europe and into parts of Asia.
The genus name Symphytum is from the Greek word “sympho” meaning “to unite” and the common name Comfrey is from the Latin “confirmare” meaning “to strengthen and join together”. This herb was traditionally used in compress and poultice preparations because of its astringent and cooling properties and its ability to facilitate cell repair in injuries. The oil contains high levels of allantoin which promotes new cell growth.
Comfrey has traditionally been used for sore joints, sprains, broken bones, arthritic conditions, scratches and burns.
