Black Walnut Hull, Powder (Juglans nigra) – Dried Herb, Organic
$8.58 – $85.80
Black Walnut trees grow wild across the United States and are the second most cultivated walnut in North America, following English walnuts. They consist of a kernel, a dry outer covering known as a hull and a hard shell. The fruit (nut) is often eaten as a food; whereas, the shell of the nut (hull) and leaf are sometimes used to make medicine.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine they were regarded as a kidney tonic, and the bark, kernel and the hulls were also used to eliminate various types of intestinal worms and parasites.
Black Walnut has been used in herbal medicine for thousands of years. It has been used throughout history for treatment of intestinal problems, viruses, snakebites, open wounds, fungus, herpes, ulcers, warts, scurvy, and as one of the most effective laxatives available. It is a good source of beta-carotene, acids, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, silicon, zinc, tannin, B-vitamins, and vitamin C.
Furthermore, the hulls contain antioxidants and are used in extracts and supplements for medicinal purposes, such as to treat parasitic infections or decrease inflammation. Black Walnut contains high concentrations of tannins, which can reduce pain and swelling and dry up body fluids such as mucous.
How to use:
Black Walnut Hull powder is most commonly ingested by mixing about 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of powder to one cup of water and steep for 15 min or it can also be encapsulated.
The tannins in Black Walnut Hulls may interact with certain medications. Consult with your healthcare professional before use if you take medications or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
