Black Tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant mainly. The leaves are allowed to fully oxidize before being dried and that gives Black Tea its deep flavour.

Black Teas are bold tasting and are thought to be astringent in nature. The plant flourishes in tropical and subtropical climates with abundant rainfall, rich soil and altitudes between 2000 and 6500 feet. The finest quality tea grows at the higher elevations where the cooler climate slows the growth.

Cultivated tea bushes are usually kept to around three to five feet tall, but when uncultivated they can grow taller than 30 feet. For high quality teas the newest two leaves and a bud are picked by hand which promotes new growth as well.

Black Tea was discovered in China in the 1600s and was introduced to Europe and the Middle East. British tea companies capitalized on the popularity of Black Tea. Over time Black Tea was grown in India and then was grown in many other countries as it does today.

Some of the benefits of drinking Black Tea are added antioxidants, including polyphenols and catechins. It can increase metabolism and may be beneficial for heart health. It may increase alertness and energy. It might increase your happiness and digestion.
