Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) – Essential Oil

Citrus paradisi, or grapefruit, is a hybrid of the sweet orange, Citrus sinensis, and the pomelo, Citrus maxima. Grapefruit is a recently discovered citrus fruit belonging to the Rutaceae family.  It was originally recorded in 1750 on the island of Barbados.  Reverend Griffith Hughes, a Welsh naturalist, traveled to Barbados and published The Natural History of Barbados, in which he wrote the first description of the grapefruit.

Grapefruit essential oil provides an uplifting environment because of its invigorating and energizing aroma, as well as being purifying when added to a skin care routine. Grapefruit oil is naturally high in antioxidants and phytochemicals that reduce oxidative stress and disease-causing inflammation.

Researchers from the Nagata University School of Medicine in Japan found that grapefruit has a “refreshing and exciting effect” when inhaled, which suggests an activation of sympathetic nerve activity that helps control body weight. Grapefruit oil has antimicrobial effects that help reduce or eliminate harmful strains of bacteria that enter the body through contaminated foods, water or parasites

Blends well with: Frankincense and Ylang Ylang.

How to use:

• Combine with a carrier oil (such as jojoba, sweet almond, or avocado), grapefruit essential oil to apply directly to the skin or added to baths.
• Add a few drops of the oil onto a cloth or tissue, or by using an aromatherapy diffuser or vaporizer.
• Add a few drops of Grapefruit essential oil to your cleaning liquid to enhance natural cleansing.
