Infections

An infection is an invasion or multiplication of microorganisms in a body part or tissue. Not all microorganisms result in infection and exposure to an infectious microorganism doesn’t always result in illness. The body uses a range of defenses, called the immune system, to combat various invaders. There are ways to support the immune system, but even healthy people can develop an infection. Infections can be mild or severe, and most require antibiotic treatment.

Continued information about Infections:

Possible Causes of Infection
Infections are caused by very small microorganisms that gain entrance to the body. When the immune system is compromised, a person can fall victim to an infection. Stress, exposure to someone who is ill, and poor lifestyle choices can cause infection.

Possible Symptoms of Infection
Infections can occur in various parts of the body, including sinus cavities, ear, throat, bladder, feet and any open wound. The symptoms of infection vary depending on where on the body the virus takes hold. See individual sections for specific information.

Possible Lifestyle Changes for Infection
Good nutrition is essential for a strong immune system. Eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of water. Exercise regularly, but refrain from excessive exercise, which can weaken the immune system. Get adequate amounts of sleep. If an infection is suspected, see a doctor for antibiotic treatment if needed.
